Tip #17: A Couple More Games

Dec 23 2010 10:53 AM

You girls are probably surprised I haven’t run out of games to talk about yet, huh? Well, believe me, I have plenty I’ve played to talk about what’s worked and what hasn’t. I could probably make this blog just about games and go on forever. But I don’t want to bore you, so I’ll make this my last post about games, at least for a while, and we’ll get back to other tips next time. I just remembered a couple of games that I really wanted to post about before we moved on.

The first one is one of my all-time favorite bar games, hands down. A little disclaimer, these aren’t just regular card or coin games I’m going to be talking about in this post, but I think this one is well worth the money. It’s only $10, after all. It’s called the Male Stereotypes Game.

I’ll try to explain it as best I can without giving too much away, because you really have to play this game to understand what’s so great about it. There are 36 cards in the game set, each depicting a stereotypical male – from the geek to the frat boy to the metrosexual. You give each girl a card (or more, if you want to play multiple rounds) and give them an hour to find the stereotype on their card. Bars aren’t the best place for this, because some stereotypes are much more common there than others, but if you’re out in a popular downtown area you should give your girls free reign to look all over the area for their targets (just make sure they don’t get lost!) Each card has some questions for the girls to ask their man, and dares to perform with him, and they get points based on what they do. Then, when time is up, the girls who have the most points win! It might not sound too spectacular, but trust me, I know from personal experience that running around looking for a tree hugger or a sports fanatic and asking him to do some of the crazy things on that sheet is super fun. This is one game I would suggest you do before the girls are too tipsy, though, so they don’t get lost, or worse, leave the party to be with one of the more desirable stereotypical males…

A game that gets more fun when you’re drunk, though, is this next one – Bachelorette Mad Libs.

I saw a mad libs book at the book store the other day when I was doing some last-minute christmas shopping and it made me remember when I played this at a friend’s bachelorette party and so I had to include it in this post. I don’t think I need to explain what mad libs is, everyone loves them. So really all I have to tell you is that some of the ones in here are especially good for girls thinking the way we always are at bachelorette parties. A great thing about this, now that I’m thinking about it, is that it’s versatile, you could have a fun time with it even if you keep things clean. But if you don’t, well, you can imagine all the hilarious possibilities.

Alright, like I said, that’s it for games now. Unless some really good idea comes up in my head between now and next time, the next post will be about something else, I promise.

Tip #16: Coin Games

Dec 17 2010 08:07 AM

Like I said last time, I think I’ll continue with the drinking games theme again. This time it’ll be another simple type of game you can play with stuff you probably already have, but this is even easier to get ahold of than cards or dice. There are plenty of fun coin-based drinking games, too. And someone should certainly have a few coins on them, especially if you’re going out for the evening. Here are a couple fun coin games you can play whether you’re at home or at a bar. Well, they’re basically the same type of game, but a little different.

Okay, the first one is one I bet you’ve heard of before. It’s called quarters. This one’s really popular with guys at the bars or college kids but girls can have fun with it too. You all sit in a circle around a tall glass (usually a beer pitcher is used but you can use any big glass) on a hard surface like a table. You take turns trying to bounce a quarter off of the table and into the glass. If you get it in, you get to tell any of the other girls to drink and then you get to try again. If you miss, it’s the next girl’s turn. If you make three in a row, you get to make up a rule – anything you want. Be creative. I listed a couple possible rules in my post about the card game Waterfall. So that’s all there is to quarters. It’s simple, fun, and all you need is a coin and a glass, which you should have access to whether you’re at home or at a bar. Just make sure if you’re at a bar that you drink everything in the pitcher first or ask for a clean one, because you don’t want to have to reach into beer to retrieve the quarter after your success!

The other game I want to suggest is a variation of quarters which I think is even more fun. It’s called Ice Tray Quarters. Instead of a beer pitcher or glass, you use an icecube tray. Each different slot in the tray means something different if you land a quarter in. When it’s your turn, make sure the tray is facing you longways – so if it’s a 2 by 6 tray, there should be 2 columns and 6 rows. If you get your quarter in the right column, that’s the give side – you tell another girl to drink. But if you land it in the left column, that’s the take side – you have to take drinks, and then your turn is over as if you had missed it. But wait, there’s more! The number of drinks you give or take corresponds to how close the quarter is. If you get it in the closest row, that’s only one drink. But every row further back is more drinks. So if you get it in the furthest row, you’re giving or taking 6 drinks! Now I bet you see why I like this version better than regular quarters. You can get tipsy much faster this way! But no matter which version you and your girlfriends want to play, if you want to play a fun drinking game and don’t have anything on you but the change in your purses, quarters is a good bet.

See you next time,

Carly

Tip #15: Dice Games

Dec 09 2010 04:45 PM

You know, there are lots of fun games for bachelorette parties that I can think of, so I think I’ll continue with that theme for a while more. This time, I’m going to talk about another kind of drinking game, but instead of cards, it’ll be dice this time. Here’s a simple dice game called sixes.

First, you line up six empty party cups in a straight line and decide which end will be ‘1’ and which end will be ‘6’. Then you take turns rolling a die. The number you roll corresponds to one of the six cups. If it’s empty, you can fill it up with as much beer (or other beverage the players have agreed upon) as you want. If it’s already got booze in it, you have to drink what’s in it, then roll again. To keep the game flowing quickly, you should probably chug, but if you know you’re playing with girls who can’t chug, be careful not to fill the cups too much or the game will take quite a while.

In addition to that simple game you can play with ordinary dice, I wanted to share these special bachelorette party drinking dice I found.

You’ve probably seen pairs of novelty dice like this for all kinds of things, not just drinking games – sex positions is a popular one too. Anyways, this is fairly self explanatory. Whoever the first dice indicates drinks whatever the second dice indicates. This is a good, cheap game which I can tell just by looking at it will get everybody drunk pretty damn quickly, if you ask me.
This post seems kind of short, but that’s all I really have to say about drinking dice. I’m sure there are other fun dice games out there, so if you know one, post it as a comment here! I’m sure other readers will appreciate your ideas just as much as mine.

See you next time,
Carly

Tip #14: Drinking Card Game

Nov 26 2010 10:53 AM

Looks like we’ve gone and turned this into another post series now, because this week it’s another thing about games. While games like pinatas and pin the macho on the man can be fun, and I highly recommend playing them, not everybody wants to. Or maybe you just don’t have the spare cash to buy them because you went over your budget on other things for the party – believe me, I know what that’s like. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun games! You can play drinking games with things you already have around the house, like cards or coins or dice – chances are someone at the party already knows a few. But in case you’re looking for one and don’t know this one already, my aboslute favorite of all time is waterfall. It has a bunch of other names, I’m told, like “kings” and “ring of fire,” but you’ll recognize it as soon as you see the instructions if you’ve ever played it before. You shuffle a deck of cards, lay them out in a circle face down on the table, and put a can of beer in the center. You also each have your own drink. Each girl takes turns taking a card from the circle and putting it under the tab of the center beer. Whoever pops the tab has to drink that beer. But the majority of the drinking comes from your individual drinks, because every value card has a different effect. Here’s what they do:

2 is You. Everybody else drinks.

3 is Me. The person who took the card drinks.

4 is Whores. Girls (so here, that’s probably everybody) drink.

5 is Five Fingers. You play a quick game of five fingers (also called “Never have I ever”), which I’d be really surprised if you’re not familiar with.

6 is Dicks. Guys (so here, probably nobody) drink.

7 is Heaven. Everybody points to the ceiling and the last person to do so drinks.

8 is Date. You choose someone else to become your “date” for the rest of the game. Whenever they drink, you drink, and vice versa.

9 is Rhyme. You say a word. Then, going around the circle, everyone else has to say a word that rhymes with that word. If someone can’t think of a rhyme or says a word that’s already been said, they drink.

10 is Categories. You say a category (like fruit or cars) and everyone going around the circle has to say something in that category (like apple and banana if it’s fruit, or jeep and cadillac if it’s cars). When someone says something that doesn’t fit or has already been said, they drink.

Jack is Thumb Master. You become the “thumb master”, which means that at any point you can put your thumb on the table. Then, everyone else has to follow suit (no pun intended!) and whoever is last has to drink. You lose the power when someone else draws a jack.

Queen is Question Master. Whenever you ask a question to someone, they must reply with a question. If they don’t, they have to drink. Like thumb master, this power is passed on to another girl who draws a queen.

King is Rule Master. You get to make up a new rule. It can be whatever you want, just don’t go too crazy. If you feel like the bride isn’t having a good enough time at her bachelorette, you could make it “the bride has to drink every time.” That’s a popular one.

Ace is Waterfall. You start drinking, then the person next to you starts, then the person next to them, and so on and so forth. The person next to you can’t stop until you stop, and so on and so forth. As you might imagine, this is a killer for whoever’s at the end, especially if some of your guests can chug.

There are tons of rule variations, so if someone knows a different one that you like better, switch it up. Everyone has their own house rules for the game.

And if you’re looking for something fun to play with – here’s a funny little deck of cards shaped like penises

You can play kings, or any drinking card game, with any set of cards, obviously. But if you do have the money to spend, this is a fun way to spice up your drinking games at your bachelorette – I guarantee all the girls will love it.

See you next time,
Carly

Tip #13: Choosing a Pinata

Nov 12 2010 12:03 PM

While we’re on the subject of games, here’s a pretty classic one that you probably wouldn’t have thought of for your bachelorette party: a pinata. Your first thought is that those are for kids’ parties, right? Well, not necessarily. They can be fun at any party, especially a bachelorette. After all, who doesn’t want to hit a giant penis with a baseball bat? How can that NOT sound like a great time?

Not surprisingly, there are quite a few penis-shaped pinatas on the market. So how do you decide which one to get? Well, price is a factor, obviously. So is size. Most that I’ve found are around 15 to 18 inches – which should hold two good-sized bags of candy. If size is all that matters to you (yes, yes, I’m sure there’s a joke in there), I’ve also seen this one, but I wouldn’t recommend it. To me, it doesn’t really even look that much like a penis, but maybe the picture’s just at a bad angle. Instead, I’d recommend one of the following.

First, there’s Willy Whack-It. What I love about this one is that it comes with stickers to give it silly faces. That’ll be sure to get even more laughs out of your guests, no doubt about it. This definitely emphasizes the silly aspect of it. As if whacking open a giant penis with another phallic-shaped object wasn’t silly enough. This just takes the cake for laughs. But my favorite is probably this one, instead:

This penis pinata kit. First and foremost, for convenience. I bought this one the first time I threw a bachelorette party with a pinata because it comes with the blindfolds, some baggies, and the bat (which it calls a dick stick – which the girls also got a kick out of), so I didn’t have to buy those things separately. If you don’t already have them, this is the best deal for your money, I think. Also, this pinata has really good quality. It’s not too hard to break open, which is always important. You don’t want to spend too much time whacking your penis! So that one’s definitely my favorite. And a pinata is definitely one of my favorite things to have at a bachelorette party. Not only is the penis pinata itself a riot, you can fill it with penis-shaped candy, too, and keep the fun going. Maybe I’ll talk about my favorite penis shaped candy next time, whenever that’s going to be. Sorry again that I’ve been posting sort of infrequently lately, but that’s life.

See you next time,
Carly
